Kanata no Astra Episode 12 Review

Welcome to quick recap/review of the final episode (a double-length episode) of Kanata no Astra, or Astra Lost in Space. Honestly, this is my first reaction. I’m disappointed and somewhat incredulous. I didn’t expect everything to be resolved. I felt sure that new chaos would start when the kids returned to Astra, but there wasn’t. The story was resolved and ended cleanly.

More than being unexpected, though, this turn of events disappointed me because I didn’t find it believable. I don’t think people can change that much in a hundred years. There would surely be much more chaos over the truth suddenly being released, violence and wars and whatnot. Plus, I don’t think the government would have accepted the kids’ story or want it publicized so easily. It would be more believable if they tried to shoot the kids’ ship down.

That’s just a matter of personal opinion, the peaceful ending being believable or not. It may or may not affect your personal enjoyment of the series. But just because I disliked this conclusion doesn’t mean it was poorly done. I mean, the makers decided to dedicate 48 minutes to making sure all the loose ends were tied up and to show the kids as young adults moving forward boldly with their lives. The episode was well-done. And I think most fans will be very happy to see these characters doing so well; I’m just weird and get kind of turned off by endings that are this sweet and happy. 😛

There really isn’t much more I can think of to say. I could write a recap, but that would probably drag on for too long, and/or my heart wouldn’t be in it. After there’s been some time to accept the ending, and after another watch of this series, I expect I’ll come to appreciate the ending a lot more. Regardless, I consider Kanata no Astra well-made and quite enjoyable.

If you’re puzzled about the screencaps, lol, I just happened to take some of Luca because he’s my favorite character and I was so stunned at how beautiful he is! Anyway, I’ll include my other thoughts on the anime overall when my series review is written and posted. That could take a while, but I hope you’ll join me for that. Thank you so much for reading and have a fantastic day. 🙂

  1. Haha, I agree with you; I’m not used to happy endings in anime so it’s weird actually seeing peace and tranquility in an anime for once. I’m too used to disaster.
