I’m excited to be almost caught up to this season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Today, I present reviews for episodes 9, 10, and 11 (or 33, 34, and 35 if you count all the episodes in the first season). I apologize in advance for the imbalance in length between these episode reviews – #9 took way longer to respond to than the others. Now then, enjoy!
Episode 9 (33): Shibuya Incident – Gate, Open
In this eventful episode, the curses and their allies actually succeed in sealing away Satoru Gojo. I’m impressed with Geto’s strategy. The fight scenes were exciting and looked great in terms of animation. Almost every aspect of this episode was thrilling and entertaining, but one part made me sad and disappointed: the death of Hanami. Of the intelligent curses capable of speech and complex thought, Hanami was my favorite due to her desire to protect nature. It’s a shame to see her go.

There was also one part of the episode that confused me. I’ve never had the best understanding of Gojo’s different powers, and I’m afraid to look it up online in case I see spoilers. So, it was difficult for me to understand what exactly Gojo did with the people and creatures on the platform. My friend who was watching with me had to help me “get it.” On the off-chance that anyone else found this scene confusing or unclear, let me explain it and review Gojo’s abilities.

The complex set of techniques used by Satoru Gojo is called “Limitless.” Gojo’s ability to use Limitless to its full potential is only possible because he also possesses “Six Eyes.” This rare attribute gives Gojo amazing perceptive abilities, including easily seeing cursed energy. When Gojo fought Toji, he acted strangely because he was using Six Eyes to see and understand so much. He was essentially “high” off information.
Going back to Limitless, there are several different ways to use it. The various forms of this power include Infinity, long range teleportation, and use of the colorful orbs (red, blue, and purple). If you want to thoroughly understand these powers and more, there is a very good article on it here at the Jujutsu Kaisen Wiki. It’s a detailed and informative read, so I recommend it highly.

Satoru Gojo can also use Domain Expansion – which is what he did at the platform in the Shibuya Incident. His domain, “Infinite Void,” has the special quality of trapping people inside Limitless. Anyone inside it will be bombarded with infinite information. The overwhelming outpouring of knowledge is impossible for most people to handle – their minds just break.
In this episode, Gojo allows a partial domain expansion that lasts for only two tenths of a second. This resulted in all the people and curses on the platform becoming unconscious – but their minds were not completely broken. Gojo then killed all the transfigured humans within minutes, leaving him exhausted and easy to catch off guard. I’m sorry for the long explanation, but hopefully it makes more sense now to anyone who was confused.

This episode review has already gone on longer than usual, but there is one final plot point for me to react to. It turns out that Suguru Geto did indeed die at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Geto’s body was then stolen and his brain was replaced. There is now a different person controlling Geto’s body. Honestly, that was shocking to me. I didn’t see it coming at all. I’m sad that Suguru is dead for good. However, I’m also very curious to learn more about whoever is controlling his body.

Episode 10 (34): Pandemonium
When I heard Mechamaru’s voice at the end of the previous episode, I hoped he was still alive. Unfortunately, the little device seems to be the last spiritual remnants of Mechamaru, which was set to activate in the case that Satoru Gojo gets sealed. I feel like we didn’t really have enough time with Mechamaru before his demise. It would have been cool to get to know him better. On the plus side, though, he at least got to experience a working body for a short time.

Technically, Mechamaru died a few episodes ago – but this current episode also featured a character death. Mr. Ijichi was brutally stabbed to death by a curse user. It was sad and disappointing for me, since I have always appreciated Ijichi. He was such a kind, caring person, as well as endlessly dutiful and loyal. I suppose there is a chance Shoko could bring him back, but I suspect it’s too late. Rest in peace, Ijichi.

It was interesting to me how the body of Suguru Geto was able to fight against its new user – at least, briefly. Whoever is in that brain also found it fascinating, leading to a short but important conversation with Mahito about souls and bodies. This scene suggests that, within the universe of Jujutsu Kaisen, the way souls and bodies work is not universal across all people. In the case of Suguru Geto, some fragment of his soul remains in his body even after his brain was removed.

I didn’t expect the two girls who followed Geto to reappear in this episode, but they did. I still don’t know their names. Although they weren’t able to do anything yet to recover their master’s body, the way they left was still menacing. Those girls are definitely planning revenge. That’s pretty much all for my thoughts on this episode.

Episode 11 (35): Seance
Three new enemy curse users were introduced in this episode, although I didn’t hear any names given. So, I looked it up on the MyAnimeList page for Jujutsu Kaisen. The bald guy with the big eyes is Jiro Awasaka. The younger man is Ogami and the old lady is Grandma Ogami. They are all criminals who use their sorcery powers for murder and mindless violence – basically, they are upgraded serial killers. That’s a scary thought.

Megumi and Yuuji did a great job working together to fight Jiro despite his superior abilities. They managed to knock him unconscious. During the fight, Jiro’s technique struck me as quite interesting. It’s called Reversal, and it works by inverting the usual way damage and force function. When someone hits him with a lot of force, the damage will be minimal or none. Conversely, when someone hits with a weaker strike, the damage will be significant.

While we’re on the subject of this fight, I wanted to add that I love the hare spirits Megumi summoned. Cute little bunnies!! My memory is shit, but this is the first time I recall seeing Megumi use those hares. A few of his other animal spirits also showed up, like the frog and the black wolf. As an animal lover, I always enjoy seeing these creatures. I still haven’t recovered from the death of the white wolf in the first season.

Yeah, the battle with Jiro was entertaining, but it also wasn’t unexpected. The shocking turn of events in this episode was the return of Toji Fushiguro – sort of. The old Grandma summoned his ghost, which then possessed Ogami. I doubt this version of Toji is as strong as the real one in the past, but regardless, he’s already doing major damage. I’m worried that Ino might be dead already.

That’s where I’ll leave off for today. As usual, I was impressed with these episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. From the awesome-looking fights to the great audio and interesting world-building, this series has a lot to offer. For those who came to check out my article today, you have my sincere appreciation!
Thanks for reading~
