Train to the End of the World

Episode 7: A Zombie That Laughs is No Zombie At All

Episode Rating: 7/10

The humor in this episode was mostly sexual in nature, but the actual girls were not sexualized (except for one unneeded panty-shot of Kuroki). So, for the most part, it was still an enjoyable installment. I don’t know that Akira should be reading erotica, but the way she managed to save everyone was funny. Also, I liked the story of Kuroki and her zombie followers. I was only moderately surprised that Kuroki didn’t decide to join the other girls in the end. In the post-7G world, maybe it makes sense to live with zombies who do your bidding rather than try to make it work with complex, treacherous humans.

Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf

Episode 7: Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands

Episode Rating: 8/10

Lawrence and Holo go to a new town to trade pepper and other goods for money. Holo finds out the man they were selling to tried to trick them by setting up the room in a way that tipped the scales. Ashamed of being caught, the man agrees to provide Lawrence with a line of credit. He also gives Holo her fill of mutton and wine. After leaving town with some shiny armor to sell, Lawrence and Holo meet a certain shepherd. She is rumored to be a sorcerer who can control wolves. Though Lawrence is impressed by the young shepherd’s beauty, Holo feels hostile. To be continued.

Bartender: Glass of God

Episode 7: A Bartender’s Resolve

Episode Rating: 7/10

Noteshis episode was reasonably entertaining. Hotel Cardinal needs to develop a menu of specialty drinks for welcoming new international guests. Miwa and Yukari ask Ryuu (Sasakura) to formulate a good menu for them. He agrees to help, but has trouble with it because it involves making drinks for strangers he can’t see. Ryuu can only make the “Glass of God” for a guest sitting in front of him. After all, he believes it’s a bartender’s job to soothe the soul of each customer.

The other main focus of the episode was on Kelvin Chen. He only recently decided he liked being a bartender and wanted to keep doing it. However, his uncaring father is trying to bully him into taking over the family business (running a large hotel in Singapore). With Ryuu’s help, Kelvin manages to impress his father with his bartending skills. But at the end of the day, Mr. Chen still expects his son to be his obedient servant. It’s up to Kelvin whether he wants to stand up to his heartless father. To be continued.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Season 3

Episode 7: Saint and Demon Clash

Episode Rating: 7/10

I’m happy to report that there was finally some action in this episode. The Seven Day Sages told Renard that Hinata was being manipulated by Rimuru, and the only way to free her is to kill the new Demon Lord. Renard led his troops to Tempest and engaged the Kurenai, Shion’s fighting force. Meanwhile, a handful of knights decided to accompany Hinata. They traveled with her and enjoyed the road to Tempest. They even stopped to eat ramen and gyoza at a restaurant that Rimuru set up. That was wholesome.

Hinata and company arrived at the battlefield as Renard’s holy knights were getting soundly beaten by the goblins. Rimuru was also there, checking on things. He now prepares to face off with Hinata, each of them thinking the other one wants to battle. In reality, both are interested in peace. This huge misunderstanding could potentially cause mass destruction. I’m excited to see if it can be resolved.

Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master

Episode 7: Falling

Episode Rating: 8/10

In order to protect her secret – which we still don’t know – Hamayu agrees to join forces with Lady Shiratama of the Northern House. As a result, Shiratama is emboldened, treating Asebi and Masuho terribly. She bullied Asebi and pushed her into the pond. She also threatened to kill herself if one of the other ladies were to marry the Prince. It seems Shiratama is completely unstable. To make things even worse, someone pushed Samamo off a cliff, killing her.

The talk between Natsuka and the Prince ended up fairly boring. We established nothing but a vague threat that if the Prince doesn’t learn from his mistakes, violence from Natsuka’s backers will continue. Meanwhile, Yukiya continues to serve the Prince, turning down a job offer from Sir Rokon. I like the relationship between the Prince and Yukiya so far. I also think the Prince is a fascinating character despite his flaws.

Tadaima, Okaeri

Episode 6: Home Visit

Episode Rating: 8/10

This episode was surprisingly intense and dramatic at a few different points, but I liked that. Although the wholesome vibes are great, there needs to be some difficulty for the characters to work through in order to make audiences connect with them better and root for them. Anyway, Masaki and his family went on a trip to visit Masaki’s hometown. There, they met his cranky cousin, Kazu.

The ill-mannered man is a beta who used to be unofficially engaged to Masaki. He is hostile toward Hiromu, and also said some hurtful things to Masaki. Moreover, Kazu refused to give Masaki a letter from his deceased mother. Masaki wanted to convince his relatives that he was happy in his new life, but he was unable to be assertive this time. I loved what Hiromu said to Kazu about how everyone is human and “types” are not the most important thing.

Mysterious Disappearances

Episode 6: A Curiosity, a Maid, and a Cultured Young Lady

Episode Rating: 7/10

As usual, this episode had some problematic and annoying elements, but still managed to entertain me quite a bit. I thought it was especially stupid when Oto had to do a shift for a day at the Maid Café. Nobody would have allowed a child to do that, and if they did, they would be unethical for a variety of reasons. It was monumentally dumb. I guess on the bright side of things, Shizuku looked very cute in her maid outfit.

Anyway, the good parts of the episode included the soundtrack, learning about the mythology of the Curiosity, and watching Oto and Sumireko put together the pieces of the mystery. Ren came back from his explorations and reached the same conclusion as Sumireko at the end of the episode: the Curiosity that steals people away is actually Tomoka, the missing friend of Shizuku. I’m not 100% sure I understand this twist, but I’m eager to learn more next time.

Black Butler: Public School Arc

Episode 6: His Butler, Scheming

Episode Rating: 7/10

After a brief flashback about Vincent Phantomhive, the cricket tournament began. It was entertaining. The absurdity and goofiness of everything is a feature rather than a bug in Black Butler. It was good to see the Phantomhive servants cheering for Ciel. There was also a good moment of character information and development for Edward, who views himself as very mediocre. By the end of the episode, the Sapphire Owl team has beaten the Scarlet Fox house. However, they are still fighting intently against the Green Lion team, who saw through their trick.

Kaiju No. 8

Episode 6: Sagamihara Operation at Daybreak

Episode Rating: 8/10

Mina Ashiro is awesome! She completely obliterated the giant fungus-type Kaiju. But it wasn’t just Mina who was doing her best and kicking ass. Vice-Captain Hoshina was incredibly impressive too with his short-range blade-work. Everyone was killing it in this episode. Even Kafka contributed to the mission by providing information about the weak points of the Kaiju and their reproductive organs. The episode ends with Ichikawa and Furuhashi running into a mysterious man – clearly the same intelligent Kaiju from the exam. To be continued!!

Whisper Me A Love Song

Episode 6: Love at First Sight and the Big Day

Episode Rating: 9/10

I absolutely loved this episode! Himari and Yori went shopping, and soon it was time for the concert. Yori did a great job singing. Overcome with love, Himari agreed to start dating Yori. It was so sweet and wholesome and romantic that it brought a tears to my eyes. I’m such a sappy person. That’s why I enjoy a good Girl’s Love anime like this.

The ending of the episode was more sticky and dramatic, introducing Shiho from the rival band. She was aggressive toward Yori and the other girls. I hope she stops being such a bitch. Great episode though.

~Thanks for reading~
