Re: Zero Episode 57 (AKA Season 3 Episode 7) – Subaru’s Speech

Thank you for stopping by Anime Rants today. This episode of Re: Zero season 3 was inspiring. It was what I needed to hear today. Subaru makes a speech through the broadcast metia in order to bring hope to the citizens of Priestella. I echo Subaru’s sentiment to everyone out there: don’t be alone, and don’t give up.

Episode 7: The Newest of Heroes and the Most Ancient of Heroes

Episode Rating: 8/10

In the previous episode review, I was confused as to why Aldebaran would respond on the metia communication link, and I immediately suspected him of treachery. But thankfully, I was totally wrong. Aldebaran was killing cultists, when one of them dropped the communication device. Just as he was opening it, Emilia was picking up the one on Corneas’ desk. The two connected, and Emilia was able to make her report.

Emilia asked Aldebaran to deliver the information to Subaru. Aldebaran was happy to help. He told Emilia to be safe, surprised by how calm and confident she was acting. I was also surprised by Emilia’s strength in this episode. Even she herself seems mildly taken aback by it. She’s determined to stay a bit longer to protect herself and the other captive women, including Number 184.

Speaking of Number 184, she revealed some terrible information. When Corneas Regulus takes a new wife, he usually slaughters everyone in that girl’s family – possibly everyone who ever knew them. Number 184 lived in a small village, and everyone who knew her face was killed. This awful information clearly troubles Emilia. She can’t just keep telling the other woman not to give up after hearing something so horrible.

At that moment, Subaru’s speech began over the broadcast metia. It succeeded in encouraging Emilia again. I think it might even have made Number 184 consider the possibly of hope again. At first, Subaru had tried to make someone else do the broadcast, but Anastasia, Julius, and Garfiel encouraged him to do it himself. As someone who has defeated the Witch’s Cult before, Subaru would be the most empowering speaker. The others also know that he possesses natural charisma, whatever he may think to the contrary.

Subaru’s speech was truly inspiring, though it took him a while to get to the real point of it. He encouraged everyone in the shelters to have hope, stick together, and help each other. Anastasia and all the others at the control tower were impressed with Subaru’s heartfelt performance. I was also impressed – both with the character of Subaru and with the voice actor putting so much passion into his role. (Yuusuke Kobayashi is the talented young man who plays Subaru.)

The populace of Priestalla now have hope in their hearts once again. To make things even better, Otto appears at the end of the episode, bringing with him Reinhard the Sword Saint. With Reinhard on their side, Subaru’s group has a much better chance of retaking the water-gate towers. The tide may be turning soon.

As I noted in the introduction, I fully agree with Subaru’s sentiments. I also don’t want to go down without a fight. I can’t reiterate enough how important it is for us to be there for each other. As cliché as it sounds, please, don’t give up.

~Thanks for reading~
