Although I enjoyed some of the colors and action in this episode, I’m disappointed in this season overall. I honestly just can’t wait for this arc to be over. And if there’s ever a third season, I’ll probably skip it, especially since I’ll have less time for blogging in the coming months (because I hope to be working). Anyway, let’s take a look at this episode together and see what transpired.
Episode 23: The End of Dawn
Episode Rating: 6/10
When we last left off, Wangnan had been brutally stabbed by Beta. Viole tries to convince Beta to leave Wangnan alive, but the sadistic revenge-seeker is ready to finish off his victim. Just then, Rak, Laure, and Yihwa arrive at the summoning pool to save Wangnan and help summon Viole. Together, Laure and Yihwa destroy the parasite that was giving Beta extra power. In order to do this, Yihwa used her fire powers – and actually managed to control them perfectly. She’s finally improving.

Beta keeps trying to kill everyone, using a huge, genie-like spirit puppet made of greenish-yellow Shinsu. Clinging on to survival, Wangnan manages to summon Viole, but it will take five minutes for him to appear. In the meantime, the Workshop researcher Sophia appears and tries to talk Beta into calming down. Thanks to that distraction, time was bought, and Viole finally appeared to defend his friends.

As the two opponents duke it out, Viole tries to reason with Beta, explaining that he had nothing to do with the experiments that traumatized him. But Beta is being completely unreasonable in his hatred. He believes what Emily told him: that he’s no longer human, and that it’s all Viole’s fault. During the fight, Beta recounts the time when he was forced to kill his fellow test subjects in the illegal experiments. But even after that, he wasn’t set free, and could only survive if fed daily medicine by FUG. Beta’s life sucks.

Eventually, using the power of the Thorn, Viole defeats Beta. Some soldiers come to finish him off, ordered by the workshop to dispose of him. However, Viole doesn’t want Beta to be executed. Arkraptor and Vespa help save Beta. The soldiers then turn to Sophia, ready to kill her as compensation. But one of the soldiers reveals himself to be Lero Ro. He saves Sophia and shoots the enemy soldiers. Everyone is now safe. I just hope Beta is now too weak to fight.

In the last scene, Reflejo calls the Mad Dog and the angel girl (name still unknown) telling them to prepare for one more battle. Somehow, Reflejo has captured Hwaryun, Kang, and Novick. Cassano is also with him. They can now lure in Viole with the threat of killing his friends. To be continued.
