Guild Receptionist Episodes 4 and 5 Reviews

Thank you for stopping by Anime Rants with 7Mononoke (Mono for short). After the third episode’s darker atmosphere, I wondered if I would like the direction of Guild Receptionist. Well, it turns out that episode four was the best so far, in my humble opinion. The fifth episode was also entertaining. This article contains my notes on these two installments. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

  1. Episode 4: Relics, Secret Quests, and Dark Gods Keep Interfering with My Work, So I’ll Destroy Them All
  2. Episode 5: I May Be the Silver Sword’s Healer, but Even I Could Use Some Healing

Episode 4: Relics, Secret Quests, and Dark Gods Keep Interfering with My Work, So I’ll Destroy Them All

Episode Rating: 9/10

This was an exciting and impressive installment. It started with Jade fighting Silha while Lowe and Lululee tried to escape. Before long, Jade was unable to stand, pierced and slashed in a dozen or more places by Silha’s blades. Alina realized what was happening thanks to the pendant she got from Jade. It glows bright green when its owner is close to death. As soon as the pendant started lighting up, Alina left the guild office and rushed to the dungeon portal.

I’m quite happy with the character of Alina so far. I thought it made sense for her to struggle with the decision a little before committing to the trouble of saving Jade. In the end, she couldn’t look the other way. Alina was even willing to lose her job if it meant hurrying to rescue the young adventurer. A group of guards witnessed her transforming into the Executioner, so she would almost certainly be fired after this.

Once inside the dungeon, Alina saved Lowe and Lululee from a huge monster. But Lowe was severely wounded by then and Lululee couldn’t heal anything without her staff, which Silha broke. Thus, it was up to Alina to fight Silha alone. When she saw Jade in a bloody pile on the floor, she thought he was dead. She was immensely relieved when Jade came to and helped defend her from Silha’s blades. He also gave her a big hug. That was a cute and romantic moment.

Silha was shocked to find a human on par with his power level. He went on a rant about how dark gods like himself wiped out the ancestors, but Alina didn’t care about that. She used brute force and beat Silha to death with her giant war-hammer. She didn’t even let him finish his last words. Later, the Guild Master informed Alina that she could keep her job and that the guards would keep quiet. The guild also paid for repairs on Alina’s house. It was a happy ending for Alina this time.

I really loved this episode for several reasons, such as the fact that I wasn’t sure if a main character would die or not. (In other words, the suspense was pretty good.) I also enjoyed the action scenes, music, and voice-acting – especially from the star of the show, Rie Takahashi (voice of Alina). This episode showcased the things I like best about Guild Receptionist, including the power of its strong-willed and quirky female protagonist.

In addition, I believe this anime has high potential to be a romance I thoroughly enjoy. Jade is growing on me with his sweet nature and altruist energy. I’m starting to want to see him get together with Alina. It was humorous when she smacked him. Hitting people is problematic in reality, but I enjoy the character dynamic in fiction where a tough girl is constantly aggressive toward a cute boy. I think this romance will be entertaining.

Episode 5: I May Be the Silver Sword’s Healer, but Even I Could Use Some Healing

Episode Rating: 8/10

The Centennial Festival – a three-day long celebration that happens every year, will happen soon in the city of Iffole. The last two years in a row, Alina missed the festival due to overtime work. This year, she’s determined to finish all projects and all overtime before the festival so she can finally attend and have some fun. It was cute how excited Alina got as she raved about the celebration.

Unfortunately for Alina and the others at the office, they soon got a huge influx of new work. Crowds of adventurers were trying to get in due to the rumored “secret quest” that would supposedly reward a person with a Dia Skill. This rumor is completely baseless as far as we know. It was likely spread by someone who wants to resurrect the dark gods. That’s what Guen concluded, anyway. But that’s enough about the plot of the episode. Next, I want to talk about Lululee, who took a central role in this installment.

Lululee is the adorable healer for the Silver Sword Party. She appears to be a teenager, but she claims to be older than Alina, so there’s probably that trope at play where the child-coded character is a few hundred years old. Besides that disappointing and gross trope, I like Lululee. She is cute, sensitive, hard-working, and eager to help others. In the fifth episode, Lululee struggles with PTSD. However, thanks to Alina, Lowe, and Jade, she begins to feel more comfortable and adjusted.

The character development hasn’t been too impressive in this series. It has survived by having two strong and colorful protagonists – Alina and Jade – to balance out the bland supporting characters. However, this episode showed us that we can expect some level of decent character development for the party members. This time, it was Lululee. Maybe next time, we’ll learn about Lowe. He seems cool.

There was an incredibly cute and funny scene wherein Alina stopped by a cake shop after clocking out on time for once. She was so ecstatic about sampling all the delicious little cakes. By coincidence, Lululee was also at the cake shop. She bought a strawberry tart and sat down for a chat with Alina, who was happy with chocolate cake. Everything about this was so cute and wholesome. Let’s have more girly cake dates in the future.

Jade and Lowe took a few days to recover from their wounds even with magic to speed their healing. During that time, Lululee took care of the boys, bringing them food and medicine. Once they were well again, Lowe and Jade gave a new healer’s staff to Lululee. She was delighted and deeply touched by the generous gift. At the end of the episode, Jade convinced Alina to go out with him on one of the three upcoming festival days. Alright, silver-haired twink, this is your big chance! *Fingers crossed*
