Guild Receptionist Episode 8 Review – Healing

This episode dealt with the topic of healing, as it fell on Lululee’s shoulders to heal Alina and save the day. But it was about more than magical healing spells. It was also about how Lululee is beginning to heal from her trauma. The episode was comprised mostly of fantasy battles of surprising intensity, but the last few scenes were very wholesome and, well, healing for both Lululee and Alina. Let’s review Guild Receptionist episode 8.

Episode 8: I May Be a Useless Healer, but I’m Going to Do Everything I Can

Episode Rating: 8/10

The battle with the twin loli dark gods continued in the dungeon. Normally, Jade would have no chance against Dia skills. However, he discovered he can can layer his Sigurth skills to produce a new skill (convergence) capable of blocking Dia attacks. However, this took a huge toll on the magic user’s body, so doing it a lot wouldn’t be feasible.

While Jade attacked one of the twins, Alina took out the other. However, the two evil lolis regenerated again. Viena proceeded to bite Fiena’s magical core out of her neck and swallow it. It was a brutal way to initiate a transformation. The two girls combined and became Vilfina, a cursed half-formed dark god. Though her attacks were stunningly powerful, she moved slowly and seemed to have low intelligence.

Alina was hit by an arrow from Vilfina. She collapsed and couldn’t continue fighting. Jade carried her to shelter and Lululee tried to heal the magical wound, but it was stubborn and tough. According to Vilfina, anyone hit with her attack would die. While Jade went out to face the enemy, Lululee kept trying to heal Alina. She was panicking and starting to cry as her spells failed again. Alina might die in front of her.

(Side Note: Lowe was busy getting Aiden out of the way so he wouldn’t become a sacrifice eaten by Viena and Fiena.)

Despite being in immense pain, Alina stood up again, saying she was ready to fight. Her courage inspired Lululee to keep trying with the healing. Everyone in Lululee’s current party was supportive of her, but in order to be a truly good healer, Lululee realized she needed to believe in herself, too. It sounds a little cliché and sappy, but I’m here for that stuff. Lululee tried again and this time successfully healed Alina. Yay!

Though she temporarily lost consciousness from the pain, Alina was fully healed. She woke up again to fight Vilfina just as Jade was collapsing. With her mighty war hammer, Alina destroyed Vilfina once and for all. The voice-acting for this scene was amazing. Rie Takahashi is the seiyuu who played Alina. I loved her passion and vocal strength when she screamed at the enemy to die. That was a great line delivery.

Lululee had also passed out after exhausting her magic. After the battle, she woke up to see Jade, Lowe, and Alina all alive and smiling at her. Lululee looked satisfied and relieved. She said she had always doubted herself as a healer and hated the Sigurth Revive healing skill. But now that she had saved her friends, Lululee embraced her role and her magic proudly. She said she loved being a healer. I’m happy for her.

On the last day of the festival, the people held a special ceremony to honor the souls of the dead. They lit magical lanterns and set them floating free in the night sky. Alina was expecting the ceremony to be a somber, quiet affair. She even brought Jade along without complaint because she didn’t want to feel depressed on her own. However, it turned out that the ceremony was a joyful, lively event where people cheerfully celebrated rather than wallowing in grief.

In the last minutes of the episode, as Alina was invited to drink and party with Jade and the others, she realized something important. She was no longer lonely. For the first time in a long time, she had a friend group she cared about deeply. This was helping her heal from the loss of Shroud, which still haunted her after so many years. It was a wholesome ending that filled me with soft, warm feelings.

So far, Guild Receptionist is a good and entertaining anime for those who have time to watch shows that aren’t highly acclaimed. In other words, Guild Receptionist is probably never going to rise above 7/10 in my score system. It’s missing the sort of epic or well-written content that would make me rate it higher. That being said, I’m enjoying this series quite a bit. I love bad-ass girls like Alina. Anyway, that’s all for today. I appreciate everyone who stopped by to peruse this blog.

~Thanks for reading~
