Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. In the ninth episode of Guild Receptionist, Alina must take the new employee training course even though she’s been employed for three years already. This episode was a lot of fun for the dramatic reactions and expressions on the characters as well as the excellent acting of the seiyuu voicing them. Let’s review a few key points of this installment.
Episode 9: I May Be in My Third Year as a Guild Receptionist, but I’m Starting New-Employee Training
Episode Rating: 8/10
As Gwen the Guildmaster promised, new receptionists were being hired. However, it would be some time before they were all trained and assigned to their jobs. In the meantime, the newbies along with everyone else woul go through “new employee training.” There was a work competition of sorts happening at the same time. Whoever had the best business proposal at the end of new employee training would receive time off work for their birthday. Alina was determined to be the winner.

Jade noticed that Alina still didn’t like him. In reality, men need to give up at that point or they are automatically creepy. In anime, however, I often don’t care much if the cute boy has a toxic approach. It can still be entertaining. Anyway, in order to win Alina’s heart, Jade started the “image improvement campaign” wherein he would only do things that caused Alina’s image of him to improve. For example, he tried extra hard not to embarrass her at work.

Honestly, I understand Alina’s aversion to Jade. He is conventionally attractive, amazingly strong, and usually popular without even trying. Countless fan-girls love Jade and would fight for the chance to date him. This would all normally suggest that Jade was arrogant and too used to having his way. In reality, Jade had a healthy amount of confidence, and didn’t think himself better than anyone else. Alina had accepted this, but still wasn’t romantically interested in Jade – which is perfectly valid.

Alina, Laila, and the other employees stayed in the training quarters for the duration of the new employee training. The training quarters was a creepy old building with gothic architecture. Rumors held that the place was haunted, and Laila believed them. She was scared out of her mind. For some reason, Lululee also stayed in the training quarters and spent the night in the same room with Alina and Laila.

(Side note: Laila’s obsession with the Executioner is getting progressively weirder. But her fanaticism is also amusing and leads to hilarious screenshots like the one below.)

During the classroom portion of the training, the guild receptionists were taught by an older woman named Rosetta Rhuberry. It was Rosetta who famously made a brand out of the guild receptionist profession. She wrote books about it, including a practical guide to being a good receptionist. The character design for Rosetta was pleasant to look at, but the character herself turned out to be a bit of a letdown. I’ll explain why.

Alina wanted solid advice from Rosetta. But when she asked how to avoid overtime at work, Rosetta replied with a bunch of bullshit about how you can transcend the idea of work by loving your job and imagining your satisfied customers. In other words, Rosetta is a workaholic who has no desire to stop working overtime. Hearing this, Alina sank into a depressed state of shock. It’s up to Jade to cheer her up now.

My favorite thing about this episode was the number of funny reaction images from the characters. I like the art style of this anime because it’s cute and extremely expressive. Alina’s faces in particular are top-quality. Just look at that off-put expression she made. Anyway, that’s all for Guild Receptionist episode 9.

~Thanks for reading~
