Thank you for visiting Anime Rants. Today we’re covering Dr. Stone: Science Future episode 10, which was exciting and entertaining. The funniest part was definitely when Senku was asked to date Luna. Senku is incredibly uninterested in romance, leading many fans to head-canon him as aromantic or somewhere on the asexual spectrum. It’s good to have some asexual representation, even if the character’s discomfort is a source of humor. Anyway, let’s review the highlights of this episode.
Episode 10: Dirty Roads
Episode Rating: 8/10
Kaseki completed the drill as instructed by Chrome. The old craftsman has always been a great character, and he’s eternally helpful to the group. I like seeing this character even briefly. It was funny how he assumed the drill was a deadly weapon, calling it a “Spinny Sword” (Guruguru Katana). Anyway, the group needed a way to get the heaby machinery to Chrome. So, Taiju set out in the science vehicle to deliver the drill.

Along the way, Taiju found Max and Carlos in hiding. The two of them were debating who should stay and watch Luna and who should follow Taiju. Being an overly friendly, optimistic goofball, Taiju invited Carlos to come with him. He didn’t care that they were enemies. Carlos was flabbergasted by this, but agreed to go along. Max stayed behind. Also, Carlos took over driving when it became clear that Taiju was inexperienced.

The digging group wasn’t as charitable as Taiju. They tied up Carlos and gagged him so he couldn’t report to Xeno. That was a wise move, because Carlos saw everything that was happening with the tunnel plan. He watched in amazement as the group of teens and young adults constructed the tunnel. Much to Chrome’s satisfaction, the drill worked amazing well. Taiju was the one who wielded it because it was absurdly heavy.

Meanwhile, on board the Perseus, Senku instructed Luna on how to care for his wound. It soon became clear that there was blood in his left lung. Draining it would be difficult and risky, but Senku asked Luna to do it. The pretty med student suggested a condition for her help – something that would motivate her. Senku feared she would ask for his group’s surrender, but she instead asked if he would be her boyfriend. Honestly, good for Luna. She knows who she likes and will pursue him boldly.

Despite his reaction of surprise and discomfort (disgust even), Senku must have agreed, because Luna immediately used the radio to tell Carlos she had a boyfriend. Carlos liked Luna, so his first reaction was to cry. However, now that it was clear Luna had switched to Senku’s side, Carlos followed suit. He told the digging team he would draw them a map of Xeno’s compound, and they released him. So far, I like Carlos a lot, especially since he is so loyal to Luna without demanding her love in return.

Two weeks passed quickly and it was almost time for the decisive battle. Senku was apparently much better by that time, but he hadn’t made a single move with regards to his new relationship. Luna was depressed about it. She wasn’t an idiot, so she knew he wasn’t into her, but simply agreed to her request for convenience. The others then told Luna about Senku’s long history of not giving a single damn about romance, even when he was temporarily married. Lol.

Back in Dr. Xeno’s factory/castle, Dr. Brody completed the secret weapon. Gen was still unable to tell what it was. On the bright side, he knew to be prepared for the coming attack, since the digging team had been sending him coded messages. They used Uesugi code, which doesn’t make a lot of sense unless you know Hiragana, a part of Japanese language. It was a clever way to make sure the Americans couldn’t decipher it if they overheard the messages.

In the last few minutes of the episode, Stanley approached the Perseus in a tiny fighter plane. Senku’s side now had a plane as well, constructed mostly by Kaseki and Ryusui. They also modified the ship to make it like an aircraft carrier, complete with a runway. As the resident pilot, Ryusui would operate the plane. Senku was with him, too. They succeeded in taking off. The battle was now beginning. To be continued.
