Winter 2021 Episode Reviews (Week 3)

Welcome to this week’s episode reviews at Anime Rants! My entries are rather brief this week due to limited time and energy, but every episode was interesting! Let’s get started.

Attack on Titan Final Season

Episode 6 (65)

This was a truly chilling episode of AoT. Chaos and violence unfolds as the Attack Titan kills the crowds and destroys buildings. He fights with the Warhammer Titan and almost ate the person controlling it (a girl from the Tybur family). The Jaw Titan, piloted by Porco, interferes, and tries to eat Eren. Levi and the other members of the Survey Corps fly in to help, and the episode ends with Porco’s pure terror. It was a somber and sad episode because of all of the death, and because I don’t know if I agree with Eren’s decision. But it was also a thrilling and wonderful episode since we got to see all the old characters come back, aged four years and looking bad-ass and mature. It all looked good visually, too.

Two other notes. Now that so many people– including Sophie and Udo– have died, Gabi is going crazy with fury. This is the start of her madness. In a sense, Gabi is like another Eren. Her home was invaded by a titan and her friends were slaughtered, so she’s driven by hate and vengeance. This shows the theme of the cycle of violence extremely well. I also had a similar respect for the moment when Captain Margath said, “Yes, the Eldians are indeed the descendants of demons. And we Marleyans, also, are demons.” I look forward to the next episode!

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime 2nd Season

Episode 2

in TenSura, things are going well for the nation of Tempest. The episode served to resolve the battle and show Rimuru’s group getting along with the envoys from Euzania. Afterward, Rimuru heads to Dwargon to visit the Dwarf King and keep up good relations between the nations. Nothing happened that really interested me. The 2nd season is getting off to a slow start. I did, however, love the snake/dragon lycanthrope lady who drank all the apple brandy.

Dr. Stone (Stone Wars)

Episode 2

It was a fun episode of Dr. Stone. The chase and fight scenes were well done and exciting. The plan to distract Homura didn’t work for very long. Neither did sending Kohaku to catch up with her. Senku, Kohaku, and company followed Homura, who was following Gen’s group toward Tsukasa’s empire. By working together and using the communicator, Senku and the others caught and restrained Homura.

Chrome, Magma, and Gen were able to hide the cellphone near Senku’s fake grave. The next day, Taiju and Yuzuriha find it. Communication is possible for the first time. What I also liked about this episode was the information on several “Science weapons” such as a flare, blacklight, and Morse code. Dr. Stone is as informative and fun as ever!

Re:Zero 2nd Season

Episode 16 (41)

The first half of this episode showed the fight between Garfiel and Subaru. With a lot of help, the former was defeated. Ram then convinced him to try the witch’s trial again. The second half was primarily about Garfiel facing his past in that trial. I found Garfiel’s psychology interesting, even if I can’t really empathize. It was good that he got more character development. It was also fantastic seeing Emilia facing the next trial and talking back to Echidna. This was an 8/10 episode.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni- GOU

Episode 16

This episode may or may not completely ruin the series for me. It seems that Rika repeating worlds again this time was because Oyashiro cursed her. He cursed her for wanting to leave the village. This is not the same as the benevolent Oyashiro that Hanyuu speaks of, so it might not be true. A version of Oyashiro who curses little girls with unspeakable torture for daring to leave their homes? That’s a demon, not a deity. This arc is called cat-deceiving chapter, so it’s possible this episode was a trick. That’s what I’m hoping. If the lore of Higurashi was changed to make Oyashiro into the devil, I will not longer be happy with this version. We’ll have to wait and see.

The Promised Neverland 2nd Season

Episode 3

Emma, Ray, and company said farewell to the demons who saved them, setting off through a wasteland to the point specified in the map. There they find an underground shelter with everything they need to survive for a long time. It was great seeing the kids relax and have fun. While Emma discovers a phone and receives a call from Minerva himself, a few of the other kids make a darker discovery. There’s a locked off room with “HELP” written on the wall. Even if that amounts to nothing, I think this shelter is too good to be true. I can’t wait to see more action and suspense.

Beastars 2nd Season

Episode 3

In this installment of Beastars, we got to see how Louis ended up being the boss of the Shishigumi. It was painful to watch. While Legoshi continues investigating Tem’s case, a new kid joins the drama club. He’s an obnoxiously narcissistic sheep. After a talk with Bill and the other carnivores, Legoshi makes the decision to break up with Haru. I’m a bit disappointed. I was hoping that by now, this wolf would have progressed with embracing himself and pursuing what he wants. But as usual, he’s only thinking about “the right thing” and “the best path.” I’m not sure where this season is going now, but hopefully it will start coming together next week.

Thank you for reading and enjoy your day! 🙂
