The Reason I Started My Blog

Well, originally, I made a blog so I could post a bunch of Madoka Magica and Shin Sekai Yori content that I had written in my spare time. Then I started to get connected to the anime blogosphere, and I realized there was a potential audience for my continued writing. I felt at home among other friendly anime bloggers. Plus, most of the time, it’s just fun to write! As I kept blogging in the early few months, I gradually decided that I wanted to focus on more thoughtful and insightful topics. So that’s what I try to do at Anime Rants. 🙂

Two Pieces of Advice for New Bloggers

Let’s see…

Know your own writing style, habits, and quirks. It’s important to be genuine and true to yourself when blogging, but to also challenge the quality of your writing sometimes. Knowing about your style in advance helps with this. It’s easy to start criticizing yourself too harshly for not being proper or something, but fight past that and find what is comfortable. Your blog and your interest in keeping it up will last longer if your “voice” is natural and easy. If you’re new to writing and don’t really know yet, then use this chance to explore what you’re good at, what you enjoy, test different styles, and ask for feedback on your writing. I hope that made sense.

Remember to blog for your enjoyment. People blog for a variety of reasons. Personally, I want to try to find and build a bigger audience. I often try to think of content that’s similar to or related to what I see has the most hits on my blog. However, I also write for my own enjoyment. Sometimes, I start to feel bogged down by blog posts that don’t seem to hold my interest very well. That’s when I stop and think. Usually, it’s then that I remember I need to focus a bit more on what I enjoy. It will show in my writing if I’m getting bored or overwhelmed. So it’s better to write what you love and what you know, even if you sometimes have to give up on a post that might have appealed to your audience more. That’s my experience, anyway.
