30 Day Challenge Day 15: Animal Sidekick, Pet, or Summoning

I’m guessing the term summoning was included so you could use creatures from Pokemon, Digimon, and shows like that. But I wasn’t allowed to get into those shows as a kid, and so I never have as an adult. Now, there are many yokai and/or spirits from different anime that I’d like to be my sidekicks, but no actual animals. So I decided on a pet, and also, in a way, he’s an animal sidekick. I choose Sakamoto from Nichijiou!

Sakamoto is a black cat who ran away from his last owner because she had no idea of how to keep a cat. He got stuck inside a box that said “Sakamoto,” probably the name of the shipping company. That’s when the cat was found by Hakase and Nano, two of the main characters in this SoL comedy. Hakase is a child genius professor, and created an invention– a red scarf– that lets animals talk like humans. She ties it around the cat and names him Sakamoto, and he becomes the talking kitty Nichijou fans all know and love.

Sakamoto is very concerned with things being proper, but at the same time, he secretly loves to have fun and lose himself in playing like any other young cat. This duplicity makes for some hilarious situations. He always insists that he is the oldest of the household, and that Nano and Hakase should call him Sakamoto-san, or Mr. Sakamoto, rather than just Sakamoto. Considering all the shenanigans Hakase and Nano put him through, Sakamoto is a patient feline. He can also be quite considerate, despite acting acting superior, and fussy about things propriety.

I love Sakamoto (-san), and he’s just one reason to love the anime Nichijou. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it! This has been Anime Rants covering day 15 of the 30 Day Anime Challenge! I feel pretty good about making it to the halfway point of the challenge! Join me again tomorrow, and thank you so much for reading!
