Hello and welcome! Presented here are seven of my favorite anime couples (among about twenty). For each entry, the anime source will be noted, and one or more of my favorite things about that couple will be explained. These couples are all straight because I plan to do a post later with some of my favorite gay pairings. Anyway, please enjoy!
1. Elias and Chise
From: Ancient Magus Bride (Mahoutsukai no Yome)
Elias is an ancient nonhuman creature and a skilled Mage. Chise is the girl he bought, not to be his slave, but to be his apprentice Mage, his teacher in the ways of human emotion, and perhaps his future bride. The ever-evolving dynamic between these two is what makes the show so enjoyable. It’s not always sweet, it’s never easy, and without a doubt, it’s weird. Even still, Elias and Chise make a fantastic nontraditional couple.
2. Hiro and Zero Two
From: Darling in the Franxx
I love the way they both need each other, but not in an unhealthy way. They complete one another. The progression of their relationship was enjoyable, with the two beginning as pilots thrown together in an emergency, and ending up as a committed couple in love.
3. Okabe Rintarou and Makise Kurisu
The funniest thing with Okabe and Kurisu is how much they tease and mess with each other. I love watching them grow closer and discovering each other’s quirks and strengths as the series progresses.
4. Shichika and Togame
From: Katanagatari (Sword Story)
I’ve only seen this anime once and it’s been a couple of years, so I don’t remember all that many specifics. But I seem to recall loving every second of the interactions of Shichika and Togame. The human sword, Shichika, has no understanding of human customs or emotions, but is funny, curious, and earnest. Meanwhile, Togame is clever, no-nonsense, and focused on the goals. The two of them go so well together!
5. Shinichi and Murano
From: Parasyte The Maxim (Kiseijuu)
Shinichi goes through much strife and change over the course of this wonderful and intense series. One of the only things that stays consistent for him is that he really likes Murano. Originally, Murano fell in love with Shinichi because of his big heart, quietness, awkwardness, and sensitivity. But even as she learns about who he really is, she continues loving him. Shinichi and Murano argue and have misunderstandings and drama quite a lot. This makes them stronger as a couple.
6. Taiga and Ryuuji
So many anime fans know and love this pair, or are at least familiar with them. I don’t know where to begin with favorite things related to Taiga x Ryuuji. It’s all good stuff: the drama, the comedy, the character development, the way they interact, their progress over time, and how insanely cute they are as partners. This couple is simply adorable.
7. Yuno and Yuki
From: Mirai Nikki (The Future Diary)
This is another well-known couple, though unlike the previous example, the pairing doesn’t have the same doting, supportive fan-base. Their story is classic, in my opinion. Things between Yuki and Yuno are usually dramatic and rocky, but they have some cute moments, and their love is the driving force of Mirai Nikki.
