Welcome to Anime Rants! The letters in ENTP stand for extraverted, intuitive, thinking, and judging. Someone of this type draws energy from interactions with others, usually makes decisions based on a logical process rather than going with their gut, prefers a flexible lifestyle, and is a creative thinker interested in ideas over practicality. The ENTP is sometimes called the Debater or the Visionary.

ENTPs are high-energy, single-minded with their focus, and a often eccentric. They can get extremely excited about their interests, plans, or new ideas. They enjoy teasing and pranking others, or any other form of messing with people. ENTPs also tend to troll others, be argumentative, be sarcastic or demeaning, or push others’ buttons purposely. They do this because they want to feel they’ve “won” or were “right” … or just because it’s fun.

Some ENTPs are especially impatient, easily bored, or have short fuses. But when they are in good spirits, they are charming, charismatic, and have a way of drawing people in. People and characters of this type are bright and quick-witted with a love of learning and ability to pick up new plans and skills on the fly. They tend be extremely effective at what they do once they have found their passion or skillset.

This list contains 16 randomly selected ENTP anime characters. A few notes will be included with some of them at varying levels of detail. Now without further ado, here’s the list!

Akise Aru (Mirai Nikki/Future Diary)

Akise is incredibly mentally quick, passionate about his interests, loves to debate, and sometimes acts in a way to irritate others on purpose. (Think of that famous kiss he steals from Yukiteru.) In general, he’s also charming, suave, and confident, with good people skills.

Dazai Osamu (Bungo Stray Dogs)

Dazai is an odd duck, but is never ashamed of his weirdness. Rather, he’s brimming with confidence, impressing enemies and friends alike with his sharp mind and persuasive tongue. Dazai loves to tease everyone he knows and push their buttons for his personal entertainment. He’s high-energy, excitable, and easily bored with practical concerns.

Edward Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Although he’s not typical of his type, Edward is still an ENTP. He thinks using intuition, abstraction, and connecting different ideas. He also uses an internal system of logic to inform his actions. This means his two dominant functions are still Ne (extraverted intuition) and Ti (introverted thinking).

Edward has a short fuse, a keen mind, and a love of being right, which are characteristics associated with his type. But unlike many ENTPs, Ed doesn’t generally mess with people or get pleasure out of teasing others. For an ENTP, he’s surprisingly practical and sincere.

Haruhi Suzumiya
(The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)

A bit of a special case, Haruhi goes way too far with the ENTP trait of needing to have her way. She tramples over the feelings of others, literally dragging people around and forcing them to join her club. Also, she relentlessly bullies her fellow club member, Mikuru. Haruhi is not a fun person to be around in most cases. As for her other ENTP traits, she’s eccentric, impatient, and somehow weirdly charismatic. She’s intelligent and needs constant exposure to new ideas and activities.

Himeno (Chainsaw Man)

Himeno is a Devil Hunter who just loves to tease and mess with people – especially guys. She has a rather wild, free lifestyle in her spare time. Part of that might be to cope with having a dangerous job, but I think it’s also just her reckless personality. Himeno is cheerful, quick-witted, and adaptable. She’s also smarter and more perceptive than she may seem at first.

Himiko Touga (My Hero Academia)

I don’t know much about Himiko other than she’s a villain and definitely a bit on the crazy side. I just wanted to add a character from a highly popular anime. Himiko is an ENTP according to the Personality Database’s most recent vote result.

Hisoka Morow (Hunter x Hunter)

Hailing from the shounen classic, Hunter x Hunter, Hisoka is memorable antagonist. He is widely known for being perverse, though there are different interpretations of exactly how screwed in the head he may be. Hisoka clearly shows the ENTP trait of being eccentric, what with his unusual sexual expression, his cool-but-dramatic mannerisms, and his outlandish clown makeup.

This handsome man also showcases almost every other stereotypical ENTP trait. He’s intelligent and sly, a master of trickery and illusion. He’s easily bored or disappointed, and his anger isn’t something you want to ever be around. He also likes to be irritating to others on purpose sometimes. Like many ENTPs, this man is bright, talented, and extremely effective at what he does. Last of all, Hisoka emanates charisma.

Karma Akabane (Assassination Classroom)

Besides being more sociopathic, Karma is otherwise a great case of an archetypical ENTP. He’s the smartest in class. He’s passionate about his interests, but charming and very sociable. Karma enjoys messing with and scaring others, winning fights and arguments, taking risks, and trying new things. His intelligence and fighting skills also make him deadly in a fight.

Raphiel Ainsworth Shiraha (Gabriel Dropout)

Raphiel is an Angel who was sent to the human world to monitor another angel-in-training. The best example of Raphiel being an ENTP is the way she just adores teasing and pranking the young devil girl, Satania. There is no end to the entertainment and fun Raphiel gets out of this. Who would expect an angel to be so sadistic?

Reigen Arataka (Mob Psycho 100)

Pretending to be a psychic, Reigen is a professional conman who takes advantage of people who believe in spirits. But in this universe, all things paranormal are real, and Reigen soon employs starts a powerful psychic. So, his business isn’t all a lie. He really does help banish troublesome spirits. Even then, however, he takes all the credit and most of the money, taking advantage of his naïve psychic employee.

Reigen is a beloved character for the humor and energy he brings to the anime. I love him as well, but there’s no denying he’s an irredeemable swindler. While ENTPs are certainly not all liars, most of them do have natural charisma and persuasive communication skills. So, like Reigen, they may be more drawn to trickery compared to some other types.

Rintarou Okabe (Steins;Gate)

A self-proclaimed mad scientist with a fictional name of Hououin Kyouma, Okabe believes in time travel and thinks he’s being targeted by an evil organization trying to take over the world. This young man takes ENTP eccentricity to an extreme. I’m never entirely assured of his sanity, even if his delusions are actually correct, in the end. Other ENTP traits of Okabe include: prone to impatience, likes winning debates, playfully insults and jokes with his friends, often acts arrogant, has above average intelligence, and possesses a weird sort of charisma.

Shigure Sohma (Fruits Basket)

Shigure is possessed by the dog spirit of the Zodiac, meaning he turns into a dog sometimes. Since dogs are among the smartest mammals, it follows that this man is highly intelligent. Shigure has a reputation for being clever, sly, and perceptive. He is also flirtatious and can be lascivious. He likes to mess with people a bit too much, but is still a friendly host. Both verbally and in his writing, Shigure is a proficient communicator.

Shougo Makishima (Psycho-Pass)

The main antagonist in Psycho-Pass is intellectually gifted. Charming and charismatic, he is a smooth talker. Makishima seeks to let people explore their true selves and desires at the cost of destroying social order and causing mass violence. Upsetting the peace is entertaining to this man. His goal is to destroy the system. With his inventive, adaptive ideas and brilliant mind, Makishima is a force to be reckoned with.

Undertaker (Black Butler)

Undertaker runs a mortician/funeral shop in London. He sometimes provides useful information for Ciel Phantomhive as he solves mysteries. With a cheerful, zany energy and a preoccupation with jokes, Undertaker is certainly eccentric. I don’t know much more than this, since I haven’t seen all of the Black Butler spinoffs and movies. Still, the online consensus from fans is that Undertaker is probably an ENTP type.

Yato (Noragami)

Yato is a former god of war trying to cope with modern times by acting as a delivery and odd jobs god. I’m not much of a fan of Yato, but he’s a popular character with a lot of humor and energy. As an incurable mischief maker and inconsiderate goofball, Yato is probably an ENTP.

Zero Two (Darling in the Franxx)

Zero Two is a pilot of the mechs known as Franxx. The other pilots are unaware that she isn’t fully human. She is masterful at pushing others’ buttons. It’s hard for people to know when she’s serious – unless she’s angry. When Zero Two is angry, everyone knows it from how frightening she becomes. Beyond just being short-fused, she can also get violent. She doesn’t care about anyone else’s feelings (at least early in the show), and has even killed a few other pilots.

Zero Two isn’t all bad, though. She’s smart, skilled, and funny even before she begins to develop her empathy. Once she lives with the humans for a while, she becomes more vulnerable, and from there, more caring. She learns to respect others and grow friendships.

Zoe Hange (Attack on Titan)

Hange is a soldier who fights Titans as well as a researcher that studies Titans. Most fans use she/her to refer to this androgynous character, but her gender identity is never revealed, meaning she is likely nonbinary. Despite the fact that Titans are terrifying monsters who have killed her comrades, Hange loves studying them and takes her work very seriously. There’s no doubt that ENTP is the best fit for Hange, as someone who is eccentric, remarkably intelligent, and passionate about new ideas and knowledge. She also just acts goofy half the time.
